Panic Attacks are Real and Scary!

🧠 Let’s Talk About Panic Attacks: Real, Raw, and Terrifying

Panic attacks are real. They’re not “just in your head” and if you’ve ever had one, you know how terrifying they can be.

Imagine feeling like you can’t breathe. Your heart is pounding out of your chest. Your hands are shaking. You feel dizzy, detached from reality, or like you might be dying. All this… and there’s often no clear “reason” why.

That’s what a panic attack can feel like.

It’s not drama. It’s not weakness. It’s your body sounding an alarm, even when there’s no actual danger.

🩺 What Happens in the Body During a Panic Attack?

• Adrenaline floods your system (fight-or-flight mode).

• Heart rate spikes.

• Breathing becomes rapid or shallow.

• Muscles tense.

• You may sweat, tremble, or feel numb.

• Some people experience chest pain, nausea, or dizziness.

• You might feel like you’re losing control, but you’re not.

💡 Tips to Cope With or Prevent Panic Attacks:

1. Ground Yourself – Use the 5-4-3-2-1 technique to focus on your surroundings.

2. Breathe Deeply – Try slow, belly breathing. Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 6.

3. Remind Yourself: “This will pass.” It always does, even when it feels endless.

4. Limit Caffeine & Alcohol – They can trigger or worsen anxiety symptoms.

5. Move Your Body – A brisk walk or stretch can help regulate your nervous system.

6. Talk About It – With a friend, therapist, or support group. You’re not alone.

7. Know Your Triggers – And build healthy coping mechanisms around them.

✨ If you struggle with panic attacks, know this: you’re not broken. You’re human.

Let’s break the stigma and keep having real conversations about mental health. Your experiences are valid. And help is out there.
