S&L Self-Harm Distraction Kits in the Community

The image is a snippet from an email sent to me during the week.

It was from a professional working with children and young people.

This is exactly why we need to get our kits into the community.

Self-harm is everywhere. It’s in every school, every college, every university, every youth group, every work place!

It is not a reflection on anyones setting, it is a reflection on the current mental health crisis, and not just in the UK. It is a reflection on the lack of adequate resources and support for anyone struggling with their mental health.

So many people are resorting to self-harm as a coping strategy - and not just young people. Children, men, women, of any age, any gender are finding themselves battling with the addiction and cycle of self-harm. ITS EVERYWHERE and self-harm doesn’t care who you are, where you’re from, if you’re rich or poor, it can affect anyone! And it does.

So please, don’t just turn your back and think it’s not relevant to you, it doesn’t affect you, it doesn’t happen in my school, it doesn’t happen in my work place - it does!

So back to the email…People need to have access to my kits. This particular young person could have been able to resist the urge, or at least be able to manage their self-harm safely if they’d had a kit. What could have happened to that young person if they hadn’t had the courage to reach out for help?

This is why we work tirelessly to raise awareness and fundraise to get kits into the community. It matters. It makes a difference. I can save a life.

Please support us, and I don’t mean financially necessary. You can put leaflets up in your work place. You can be a pick up centre for kits. You can tell friends, family and colleagues about us.

I can guarantee you will know someone who is, or has been affected by self-harm, but it has been kept quiet because of shame and stigma. We need to end that too.

Thank you for listening 💚🧡
