We are all have a part the play!
At least 1 in 15 young people are known to self-harm — but the reality is that many more are suffering in silence. Hidden self-harm is a growing issue across the UK, and signs can start to show from as young as eight years old. That’s why it’s so important to give children and young people the tools to manage their emotions in a healthy, positive way before self-harm becomes their coping strategy.
Schools Have a Vital Role to Play
Schools don’t want to admit they have an issue with self-harm, but hello! It’s everywhere! It’s a nationwide issue that affects children, young people and their families. Schools are often the first place where signs of distress appear, and yet, many are unsure how to approach the subject. And many brush it under the carpet because of the stigma. They feel it a reflection on their school. It is not. It is happening in EVERY school!

By opening up the conversation about self-harm, schools can help break the stigma that keeps so many young people silent. When we talk about it openly, we send a powerful message: you are not alone, and you don’t need to hide.
Children and young people who self-harm often do so in secret, and hidden self-harm is especially dangerous. Many don’t know how to manage wounds safely, which can lead to infection, scarring, and long-term health complications. But with the right support, we can change that.
Introducing the S&L Self-Harm Distraction Kits
The S&L Self-Harm Distraction Kits are designed to help children and young people find safe, practical ways to cope when they’re feeling overwhelmed. Each kit is filled with carefully chosen distraction tools and comforting items to help redirect distress into healthier actions and give them something positive to focus on during moments of crisis.
These kits are not just boxes — they’re a lifeline. They remind children that there are safe ways to express emotions, and that help is available.
Sponsor a School – Save a Life
We’re on a mission to get S&L Self-Harm Distraction Kits into as many schools as possible. Through our Sponsor a School Scheme, individuals, businesses, and community groups can make a real difference. By sponsoring a school, you’ll help ensure that every child and young person has access to the emotional support and tools they need to stay safe and build resilience.
Together, we can reduce the stigma, start the conversations, and literally save lives.
So come on — let’s talk about self-harm. It’s a reality we can’t afford to ignore. Let’s support children and young people instead of shaming them. Let’s make sure every school has the resources they need to keep their students safe, supported, and self-harm free.
